Executive Branding

Updated: Sep 7, 2021

What are they saying around the water cooler?

What type of coworker/boss/professional are you? When everyone is surrounding the water cooler, what do you think people are saying about you and your skills?

The type of leader you are determines the workplace culture, retention rates and overall productivity within an organization. Therefore, it is essential to define what qualities you want to be known for as a leader to know what qualities you don’t want to embody.

What kind of leader do you want to be?

All great leaders have something they are known for. Barack Obama for the being the first black man to hold the US Presidency, Maya Angelou for her revolutionary art, Oprah for her ability to connect women nationwide. So, what is your leadership brand?

Regardless of experience level, here are three steps to start building up your executive brand as a leader in your organization.

STEP #1- BE YOUR BRAND

Develop a clear identity of who you are professionally and how you want to be as a leader. Going back to that water cooler scenario, what do you want to be known for? What do you want people to say about you when you’re not in the room?

STEP#2- BE VALUABLE

We all have something to offer. Impeccable communication skills, ability to complete complex skills, have excellent penmanship, whatever it might be, use that and bring it to the table.

How can your skills impact your industry?

STEP #3- BE RELEVANT

Are you a trusted source of information? Can people turn to you and know your leadership skills, and/or ideas are constantly developing with the marketplace? And are you working to create the best outcome? Stay current with what’s happening, or you may get left behind!
